Wellness habits are all over the internet and sometimes it can be hard to know which ones will really make a positive impact on your life.
I've done my fair share of research and finding habits that work for me through trial and error, and I've implemented a lot of wellness habits into my life. In this blog post, I'm going to share the ones I would definitely suggest to anyone who is trying to build wellness habits.
All of the habits that I'm going to mention just so happen to be some of the most simple, which is all the more convincing that you should implement them into your life!
So, if I could only suggest 5 habits that I truly believe will change your life, these are the 5 I would choose.
Prioritize a Consistent Sleep Schedule

We know how important sleep is to our wellbeing, yet so many of us continue to prioritize so many other things over our sleep schedules. I get it, life gets in the way and makes us stay up later or wake up earlier than we'd like.
However, if you can find a way to make sleep a priority, you'll notice a huge change in your wellness and overall happiness. Not only is getting enough sleep important, but so is having a consistent sleep schedule.
I used to be someone who stayed up until at least 2 in the morning every single night, and would wake up whenever I felt ready. My days would start groggy and tired, and would continue that way until I went back to sleep.
When I started prioritizing my sleep schedule, I started sleeping better, getting tired at the right times, and waking up feeling more alert and staying that way throughout the day.
Practice Gratitude

I will never stop telling people to start practicing gratitude. This has been one of the most positive changes I've seen in my life since I started practicing wellness habits.
Practicing gratitude means taking a few moments of your day to think about and express gratitude for all of things in our lives that we are grateful to have. This habit is one of the most impactful- and it just so happens to be one of the easiest as well.
Practicing gratitude helps get us into a positive headspace and out of a negative one. It also has been proven to improve both our mental and physical health. Along with these benefits, it also improves our social relationships and our mental resilience.
A super easy way to practice gratitude is with a gratitude journal. Here's a link to a really great one that makes it super fast and easy to do this.
If you're feeling negative or unhappy at any point, try 5 minutes of gratitude and I promise you'll feel better. Once you start making this into a habit every single day, you'll notice a huge change in your wellbeing!
Get Sun Exposure Within 15 Mins Of Waking

Right when you wake up, you should be opening your curtains or going outside to get some sun exposure. Seeing the sun right when we wake up has lots of different benefits.
Sunlight helps restart our circadian rhythm, which is basically like our bodies' "sleep clocks". Our circadian rhythm tells our bodies when it's time to wake up and when it's time to be sleepy, so getting that sunlight exposure in will help you work towards a consistent sleep schedule like I mentioned above!
Getting exposure to sunlight in the morning also increases our alertness throughout the day. Sunlight stops the production of melatonin in our brains, which is the hormone that makes us feel sleepy.
If you feel sleepy throughout the day and find yourself ready for bed at the wrong times, chances are you aren't getting your sunlight exposure when you wake up.
So, when I wake up I immediately go to open the curtains or head right outside for a morning walk, if the whether permits it.
This habit is definitely important for my mental wellness and I think it is something that every person should add to their morning routine. Plus, it's a super simple habit with great benefits!
Connect With Nature

Nature does so much for our wellbeing. Some of the benefits of connecting with nature are it increases energy, regulates emotions, increases creativity, and aids nervous system function.
In the winter months, connecting with nature is a little more difficult if you're like me and live in a colder climate. But, in the spring, summer, and fall months, I make it a habit to get outside into nature every single day.
This doesn't have to be a big time commitment, even 5 minutes a day will do. Some ways I choose to connect with nature are taking a walk, putting my feet in the grass, going on a hike, or literally just sitting outside listening to the sounds and looking into the sky.
Time in nature also plays a big role in reducing cortisol levels, which is where stress comes from. Along with this, it helps with gratitude and appreciation for the world around us.
Take Magnesium

There are so many supplements out there that you can consider taking, and probably have at one time or another. I have found taking a magnesium supplement to be one of the best health habits I've ever come across.
Magnesium is like a magic health secret that everyone should get in on. It's a mineral that is crucial for almost every function and tissue in the body.
If you need the big long list, magnesium helps to regulate blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and muscle and nerve function. The biggest benefits I have noticed, though, are improved sleep, digestion, and reduced anxiety/stress.
I love taking my magnesium before bed every night. It is known to help you relax and improves quality of sleep. If you've ever taken melatonin to help you sleep, ditch that and look no further- magnesium is the way to go!
So there you have it, my top 5 wellness habits that I would recommend to everyone! If you are looking for somewhere to start in the wellness space, start with these ones and I know you'll find them to make a great difference in your life.
